Capsule Geology

The Sat occurrence is located on the southern slope of Broughton Creek, approximately 13 kilometres west of the community of Granisle or 48 kilometres northeast of the Smithers.

The area is underlain by Lower Jurassic Telkwa Formation (Hazelton Group) volcanics consisting of massive, fragmental, maroon to green andesite. This basal unit is conformably overlain by siltstones and shales which strike northwest and dip gently west. The Hazelton Group rocks are variably fractured and are hornfelsed marginal to intrusive rocks. The volcanics are intruded by an Eocene Babine intrusion. Fine to medium grained biotite feldspar porphyries of granodiorite composition occur as dikes in the layered rocks and are dated at 50 to 53 million years. Hornblende feldspar porphyries, displaying flow or trachytic textures, occur as the extrusive equivalent of the intrusive dikes. Oligocene amygdaloidal basalt and andesite unconformably overlies the Jurassic layered rocks. These rocks are fresh and host amygdules of calcite and zeolite.

The sediments and volcanics are hornfelsed and bleached near the contact with the intrusion and show quartz with sericite marginal to numerous hairline fractures and quartz veinlets. These host pyrite and pyrrhotite mineralization.

Chalcopyrite and pyrite occurs in hairline fractures in the biotite feldspar porphyry which shows chlorite-carbonate-epidote alteration. This alteration is transitional to potassic feldspar alteration with secondary biotite to the east of the property. Malachite and chalcocite occurs in the volcanics as well as minor occurrences of molybdenite, galena and sphalerite in quartz veinlets.

In 1972, drillhole 72-3 assayed approximately 0.10 per cent copper over 36.0 metres (Assessment Report 10688).

In 1972, the property area was originally staked by Amoco Canada as the M, R and O claims. Exploration work included various geophysical and geochemical surveys and 19 diamond-drill holes totalling 2000 metres. The property was allowed to lapse in 1974 before being re-staked by Cities Services. In 1980, Great Western Petroleum staked the Sat claims and completed a program of geological mapping and limited soil sampling. In 1982, Noranda optioned the property and completed a program of geological mapping, soil and silt geochemical surveys and magnetometer and induced polarization (IP) surveys.

In 2012, a geophysical IP survey was conducted over the Sat property. The work was completed by Peter E. Walcott & Associates Limited for Parlane Resources on under option from Piotr Lutynski. A number of strong IP anomalies were detected from the nine kilometre survey

In 2012, an aeromagnetic program was conducted over the Flute and Lennac (093L 190, 191, 243, 338) properties having a total area coverage of 813 square kilometres. The area included the Sat occurrence. Total survey line coverage is 4444 line kilometres. A report on the survey by Riverside Resources (BC) Inc. is found in Appendix of Assessment Report 33032. However, maps showing the Total Magnetic Intensity and First Vertical Derivative of TMI are found in Assessment Report 33707F. These maps indicate that the following MINFILE occurrences have been covered by the survey: Tachi (093L 144), Guess Creek Coal (093L 151), O (093L 163), Mine (093L 164), Alp (093L 167), Thezar 75 (West) (093L 190), Thezar 81 (East) (093L 191), Cortina (093L 192), Cougar (093L 193), Totem (093L 199), Red (093L 210), Donna (093L 212), FG (093L 213), Badge (093L 215), Sat (093L 224), Pro (093L 225), Jill (093L 242), Jacob (093L 243), Cart (093L 306), Chris (093L 307), Calcite (093L 308), Gold Dust (093L 315) and Suratt (093L 338).

In 2014, Peter E. Walcott & Associates Limited undertook compilation, reprocessing and inversion of historic induced polarization and airborne magnetic data over the Sat property for Redhill Resources Corp. The project consisted of the digitization, reprocessing and modelling of 30 kilometres of historic induced polarization, and 200 kilometres of airborne magnetic data. The final data was then merged into a 3D compilation including historic drilling results (Assessment Report 34849). Peter E. Walcott & Associates Limited also undertook IP surveying consisting of 17.8 kilometres carried out on six northeast-oriented traverses (Assessment Report 35083).

In early 2014, Redhill Resources completed an 18 kilometre IP survey over the Sat. Based on the positive confirmation of historic results obtained from this survey Redhill initiated a drilling program in June of 2014 to further test the high chargeability IP anomaly approximately 900 by 1300 metres in area. As part of the drilling program, Redhill completed four HQ to NQ diamond-drill holes for a total of 1263 metres. All drillholes intersected variable amounts of pyrite +/- chalcopyrite. High amounts of disseminated pyrite in interbedded volcanics and sediments were determined to be the main source of the chargeability anomaly, where copper mineralization was related to intrusive dikes of variable widths crosscutting these units.
